More Awards and a note of thanks to all!

I have to say I am really enjoying the blogging world…the WordPress community is indeed so encouraging and supportive!. I feel like I have acquired so many new friends in the last 6 months ever since I started blogging publicly.  I continue to feel inspired by all the lovely recipe posts of my various blogger friends and that makes me feel wonderful about my decision to start blogging.  One of the reasons I wanted to blog was to feel motivated to try new recipes and new cuisines and I have certainly been learning a lot! So I want to say a big thank you to the entire WordPress community! 🙂

After that I want to especially thank a few folks who have passed on certain awards to me recently. But since I have been so busy both at work and otherwise I did not get a chance to generate a post to acknowledge these awards until now.  OK so here are the awards that were bestowed to me by these kind individuals:

The Verstaile blogger  and Dragon’s Loyalty

These two awards were awarded to me by Detox Mamma – Yes just as the name signifies,  Detox Mama is all about ‘pure food’ and about taking care of your body. Perky Jhuls from ‘The Not so creative cook’ and Chitra from Chitra’s Healthy Kitchen also passed me the ‘Versatile blogger’ award so I am just generating a combined post for the same. Thank you detox Mamma, Chitra and Jhuls!

Both these awards require that I share 7 little known facts about myself, pass the awards on to 15 other fellow bloggers, and thank and tag the person who awarded me.

So here are 7 little known facts about myself. I vowed to spend not more than a total of 15 minutes thinking of these and hence I am terribly sorry if you find these boring! 🙂

1. I love Mexican food and can eat it anytime! One time when I was pregnant with my daughter we went to a Mexican place and I ordered a huge fajitas and chicken dish that I not only finished completely but I also ate half of my husband’s! And yes I was still hungry an hour after that! 🙂

2. I am paranoid about snakes! I cannot even watch them on TV!

3. As much as I love to cook, I hate doing the dishes…yes I MEAN IT …I really really hate it! 🙂 Oh how many times I wished I could hire someone to just come and do my dishes everyday!

4. I am a night owl and can be up till very late at night but absolutely hate waking up early in the mornings which is why I love to sleep in on weekends! 🙂

5. When I was in elementary school, I wanted to become a doctor when I grew up but that changed as I came into high school as I did not have the courage to even dissect a frog let alone a human body! 🙂

6.I met my husband only twice before we got engaged! But it was surely the best decision I ever made in my life! 🙂

7.I am a very frank and honest person and I hate it when people are not forthright.

So here are 15 other bloggers whom I like greatly and would like to pass these two awards to:

Dragon's Loyalty and more Sunshine Awards

So pleased to share that Jess from Therapy Breads has nominated me for the ‘Dragon’s Loyalty Award’ and also wanted to share that I received more Sunshine awards from these kind bloggers : Chef Julianna from Foodie on Board, Kloe from Kloe’s Kitchen, Nancy from Feasting with Friends and Lauzan from The veggie side of me. I truly appreciate it. thanks so much all of you. I am overwhelmed!

Jess is such an amazing and versatile blogger who cooks not just breads (which she does too!) but all kinds of delicious foods – a couple of my recent favorites were Thai red curry  with chicken and Banana cream cheese bread. Do check out her blog to see more of her fantastic creations.

I am happy and pleased to present this award to 15 other bloggers whom I like and greatly admire and who are so ‘loyal’ to me – they are always there to comment on all my posts :).  Much love to you guys!  Please do check out their blogs – each one of them is fabulous in their own way!

Now I also need to share 7 interesting things about myself.  So here they are … I do hope you find these interesting! 🙂

  1. I was inside a 10 floor building in Mumbai (my workplace was on the 4th floor ) when the entire building started collapsing from the top like a stack of cards!  Most of the people in the building were able to escape unscathed like me except for the unfortunate folks who were trapped in the basement of the building. It was quite an earth shattering experience – the noise was deafening and for many years after that I would get very nervous whenever I heard loud sounds.
  2. I first started cooking when I was in high school and one of my very first successful dishes was ‘sponge cake’ which my family loved and which they still ask me to bake for them whenever I visit India.:)
  3. I am a scaredy cat and not at all cut out for any kind of adventure sports. Once when my best friends and I went on a cruise together, my friends forced me to go parasailing with them but alas, I couldn’t bring myself to do it and just stayed back in the boat 🙁
  4.  I have 3 Masters degrees – one in Pharmacy, one in Business management and one in Pharmacoeconomics – The favorite joke in our family is that ‘If Indu is not preparing for some test or the other then there is something wrong with her’ 🙂
  5. I always wanted to learn Indian classical dance and never got an opportunity while growing up in India. Anyways now after having two kids and after turning 40, I am taking ‘Kathak’ lessons along with my daughter and mom and daughter will dance together soon at the recital 🙂
  6. Till I was about 10 years old or so I used to be very scared of cemeteries and once when we were in kerala we happened to pass a cemetery at night while visiting some family. We had to walk for a few blocks before we could board a bus and since I was so scared I was walking with my eyes closed and I fell straight into a ditch! To this day, my cousins back home tease me with that story 🙂
  7. Once while I was driving on the highway, a huge mattress that some stupid driver ahead of me was carrying on top of their car, fell off and landed right in front of my car and I just ran over it – when I got off the exit to check , two of my tires were fully draped with the mattress material!!!

Now the rules for accepting this award are as follows:

1.  Display the award on your blog.

2.  Announce your win with a post and thank the blogger who nominated you.

3.  Present 15 deserving bloggers with the award (in no particular order):

5.  Tell seven interesting things about yourself.

Sunshine Award: Feels good to be appreciated

Yesterday was pleasant for a couple different reasons – the first was that I finally got some appreciation/good news at work after having had a pretty stressful and rough week.  And then in the evening was pleasantly surprised to be nominated by Apsara from ‘Eating Well Diary’ for the Sunshine award!

Thank you Apsara so much. It certainly feels good to be appreciated.  Apsara’s Eating Well Diary , by the way folks, is an excellent source for healthful, vegetarian recipes that Apsara blogs about so unpretentiously.

Here are my answers to the questions Apsara has given me:

1. Why did you start blogging?
One of the reasons I decided to blog was to document my mom’s traditional kerala recipes. My mom is no more but I wanted to keep her alive through her recipes and also wanted to hand down these recipes to my children.  Living in the US for the past 15 years I have also been cooking a lot of international foods and my family back home wanted me to share those recipes with them. So hence I decided to blog so that I could share all the recipes.

2. Sweet or Savoury?
I love to make (and eat!) desserts.  There is something just very therapeutic about creating beautiful desserts!

3.If you were to go on any reality TV programme, what would it be and why?
‘Dancing with the stars’ of course ( when I become a star that is  🙂 )

4. What was the last thing you Googled?
‘Machine learning’ -( ha ha !) that is a field that I am just beginning to learn more about at my work (day job!).

5. Night In or Night Out?
Depends – I like both. Its fun to party out once in a while. Having two young kids its usually Night In though with all four of us snuggling under the blanket watching a family movie.!

6. What has been your favourite blog post to write?
Mango Pie

My Mango pie recipe since it brought back such lovely memories of lovely times with my lovely friends.

7. What’s the one thing you never leave home without?
My sunglasses!

8. Where would you most like to travel to?
Spain – It just beckons me – I imagine the food to be delicious and the place to be ‘oh so beautiful’! (from what I have seen in pictures!)

9. If you could have any super power, what would it be?
To find a cure for cancer and eliminate sickness/disease in humans

10. What can we expect to find from your blog in the future?
You can continue to expect the same kind of ‘mixed bag’ as you have seen thus far – a mix of authentic Kerala recipes, other indian recipes and international recipes (as I learn to make them). You can expect more of a focus on healthful recipes since I have been making an effort to cook healthful meals whenever possible.

Here are my list of  10 questions and my list of 10 blogs which I nominate for this award .

1. What are your reasons for blogging?

2. What is your most favorite cuisine?

3. What is your favorite TV show?

4. What has been one most amazing moment in your life thus far?

5.What is your favorite outdoor activity?

6. Where would you most like to travel to?

7. If you had magical powers and could solve one global problem, what would it be?

8. Most embarrassing moment in your life?

9.As  a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?

10.What is your ‘All time’ favorite movie?

Here are my nominations for the Sunshine award – Congratulations! (listed in no particular order – I love all of them equally for their uniqueness!)
